WHO WE ARE

Over the last 21 years, ONE SIX ONE has managed to establish itself as one of the few institutions of Melbourne Nightlife that showcases and is home to some of Australia’s best musical talent. The venue has been hugely successful since its humble beginnings and part of this success is down to the commitment and passion shown by the staff and management. Since 1999, the venue has not changed ownership and there are currently managers that have been with the business for over 10 years. We must be doing something right! And this has been evident from the support we are shown by our wonderful, loyal clientele.

The venue is based over 3 levels (including a rooftop). It houses 4 bars, a world class sound system and a famous light-up dancefloor! The capacity is over 300 people which the venue reaches every weekend without fail.

After the industry experiencing a turbulent 2020, ONE SIX ONE has come out of the blocks stronger than ever and is now looking to bolster the team to take us even further. We are currently trading 4+ nights a week and have recently expanded our promotions, bookings and events teams and we now have opportunities within the operations of the venue to help support them.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

So, our ever-expanding management team is now looking for three new FULL-TIME managers to join the crew. Responsibilities within the roles may vary depending on the experience of the successful candidate(s) however, a minimum level of previous operational management experience within a fast-paced environment will be expected.

Experience preferred may be in any of the following fields:

  • Bars management (i.e. menu design; stock control; stocking policy, ordering procedure, cocktail training, bar efficiency, etc.)
  • Shift management (i.e. department liaison, staff allocation, floor management, venue maintenance, security management, compliance management, cash management, office management, operational systems development, etc.)
  • Floor Management (i.e. bookings procedures, sales, service procedures, FOH duties, etc.)
  • Hospitality Training Officer (i.e. management of training policies/schedules, staff development, development of product knowledge and service skills, HR management, etc.)
  • Entertainment/Function Venue Management (i.e. medium to large scale event coordination, live music or corporate event management, festival management, etc.)

Ideally, the three candidates would have varied levels and categories of experience however, all candidates would need to demonstrate the aptitude and potential to progress into senior management within two years or even much sooner.

WHO THE ROLES WOULD SUIT

The roles would suit a current General or Deputy Manager in a smaller venue who is ready to take on their next challenge or a Venue Manager or Bar Manager in a larger, high-volume venue who is looking for an opportunity to step up. This opportunity may also suit a previous nightclub General Manager who has taken a break and is looking to get back on the horse.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU

ONE SIX ONE has a 24hr license and regularly trades until dawn. Although nightclub experience is preferred from the applicants, it is not essential. However, the understanding of the late hours that are required to be worked in the roles would need to be demonstrated through previous experience.

Sound knowledge or regulations regarding venue compliance will give the applicant an advantage.

Good interpersonal skills are a must as these roles rely heavily on the ability to manage personalities from all walks of life.

Excellent communication skills, a professional and friendly demeanour and a willingness to tackle every aspect of the business with a hands-on approach and a positive attitude;

Passion, energy and enthusiasm and a proven track record of leading, motivating and growing successful and loyal teams.

Strong financial acumen is essential.

Ability to work to deadlines and to show good time management skills.

High personal presentation and projects a positive and friendly attitude always.

Understanding of the local industry will also give the applicant an advantage.

Salary – negotiable depending on experience.

Applicant must hold a valid and current accredited Victorian RSA Certificate.
